Tired, Aching Body

by Natalie on August 23, 2010

I kind of can’t believe this myself, but my body feels comparably as tired as it did when I ran the Wild West Relay this time last year.  That was a 48 hour-196 mile running relay race.  This was Les Mills Quarterly.

Let me rewind a bit.  My alarm went off at 5:00am this morning (crazy for a weekend, I know).   By 6:00am I was at the designated meeting place, and by 6:10am we were on our way to the convention.  Basically, we all just took different Les Mills classes from 8am-4pm.  My schedule included:  Body Pump, Body Step, Body Combat, Body Vive, Body Attack and Body Flow.  I changed my clothes three times because I was drenched in sweat!  It was an incredible experience and I’m so glad I decided to go.  What an awesome way to gain Continuing Education Credits (CECs) for my certifications and hang out with the other instructors from my gym.  I was astounded by everyone’s energy and got some great ideas for my classes.

This picture doesn’t do it justice because it was taken toward the end of the day, but it was packed:

My day didn’t end there, though.  I had to race back to town to teach my first kickboxing style class at the campus Rec center.  It ended up being a great class because the girls worked so hard.  From there, I went straight to play kickball as our team was in the tournament for the consolation “prize”.  Unfortunately, our team lost 3-1, but I was kind of  amazed that I was still standing by that point!

I’m off to take a hot shower and get my buns in bed.  I’m taking the day off tomorrow from working out, so plan on a nice, slow stroll with the dog for a little movement :)

Night, night.

*TIP TIME*
Make sure to factor in recovery time when you have worked your body to the max.  A good rule of thumb is to take 24 hours off after a race or event and evaluate how your body feels.  If you still feel achy, take another 24 hours and re-evaluate.  Pick a lower impact exercise for the first day back to prevent overuse injuries.

QUESTION:  How long do you like to take as recovery after a fitness event (race, conference, etc)?

Good Morning Sweetheart!
Gosh, what you did yesterday sounds like an amazing experience. I really can’t imagine being able to do all that you did. It sounds like the equivalent of running the whole 196 miles all by yourself. Your body is so strong and your mind is, too. I can’t wait to hear all the details. Sounds like an incredible blast.
Love you,
Mama
