This weekend is extra exciting for me because my big sister is coming for a visit. She has a break from school (she’s a principal) and I can’t wait!!
Yesterday I headed to the gym for some cardio + BodyPump. This is our last week teaching the current release (#80) so I’ll have to start re-learning some old choreography this weekend. I teach one more time on Saturday morning, then I’ll be changin’ it up. Even though I’ve done it many times now, it’s still tough!
This pre-workout breakfast kept me perfectly fueled:
[cottage cheese w/ 1/2 banana, raw oats, a drizzle of honey, TONS of cinnamon]
After working all day I trained a bunch of clients before heading home…to do homework! I have a lot due in the next few weeks including so much reading. It’s all interesting, so at least I have that going for me

This morning I headed to the gym bright and early for group, a sweat, and to teach boxing. For my workout, I hit the treadmill to attempt some speedwork but after like 5-minutes, I really wasn’t feeling it. I hopped onto the elliptical instead. After 10-minutes on there, I couldn’t take it anymore! I was just antsy and fighting some negative thoughts (“this is stupid”, “why am I doing this”, etc.). Instead of pushing through, I just jumped off and grabbed my yoga mat. The studio was empty for a whole hour, so I put on some slower music and went through some poses. It felt SO good.
I didn’t follow any particular routine and did a few sequences of the following:
Sun Salutations
Chair Pose
Eagle
Tree
Warriors II and III
Forward Folds
Triangle
Reverse Warrior
Down Dog
Wheel
Pigeon
Happy Baby
I got booted out for pilates class to start, but it was exactly what I needed to calm my mind and center myself. Ahhh, yoga…

After teaching an intense and fun boxing class, I got my second wind and felt ready to bust out some cardio. I set my gymboss to 10 rounds of 30-seconds w/ 5-seconds between and did the following exercises:
Stairs
Mountain Climbers
Jumping Lunges
Jump Rope
Burpees w/ Pushup
High Knees
Squat Jumps
Jacks
Lateral Hops
Quick Feet
I repeated the circuit four times through (for 20-minutes total) and was a sweaty, sweaty mess by the end! My split-up workout ended up being the perfect combo of mind/body and cardio. WIN

I ran home to shower and eat lunch before heading to a meeting, appointment, and class. Lunch was quick and easy (and colorful!).
[1 egg/1 white on toast, veggies and hummus]

Class this afternoon was quite interesting! One of the head Registered Dieticians from the public school system came to present about school lunches. Man, have they come a LONG way since I was in school! In case you didn’t know: pizza is now made on whole-wheat crust with low-fat cheese, they serve NO fried food, and they got rid of all “snack” cakes and goodies (i.e. Little Debbie’s). I was pleasantly surprised! We talked all about the funding of school lunches, politics behind decisions, and concerns associated with nutrition in the schools.
Okay, I’m about to clean up the kitchen and help Colin prep for an oral argument…so that should be fun
See ya later!
*TIP TIME*
Give yourself 10-minutes to do an activity and if you’re really not feeling it, do something else until you find something that suits your mood for the day.
Question: As a kid, did you buy your lunch or brown bag it?

Looks like a great workout! I’ll definitely be giving it a try soon…
I did a little bit of both when I was a kid. But I have to say, I’m not sure my brown bag lunches were really much healthier than school lunches. I remember something about a package of wheat thins and a canister of cheez whiz. No good. My mom and I have come a long way
That’s great that the schools are becoming healthier!
LOVE that Nancy’s cottage cheese – I’m glad you like it too!
As a kid, I totally brown bagged it until High School, and then I ate the junk there! No wonder that’s when I started gaining weight!
Oh my gosh I am so happy to hear about those school lunches!! That is so encouraging!
I brown bagged it…In fact I made my own lunches and they usually consisted of 2 sandwiches on white bread, either pb and j or bologna and butter. ick.
Love your blog’s name:) And, I can’t remember that long ago! I know in HS and jr. high that I bought. I think.
