It’s been forever and a day (real time: 16-days) since my last post and I feel like so much has happened since then. First and foremost, my childhood best friend got married and it was an amazing weekend of fun, laughter, tears, and celebration. She was a gorgeous bride and I think I win a prize for being the best maid (matron!)-of-honor train fluffer!
Class started up Tuesday and it’s going to be a doozy of a last semester! I’m taking a grad level statistics class and a practicum. It’s 6-hours total (which is kinda insane for summer school…9 is the maximum for a normal semester)
and I’m attempting to train about 20-hours per week and do management work 15-hours per week…PLUS teach classes and workout. Am I crazy? Highly likely
Good news is that it’s only 8-weeks. How bad can 8-weeks be? (Don’t answer that)
Anywhoo! I’m still nursing a bum knee, but I am trying to stay active sans running. My last weekend was full of LOTS of walking (4 hours to be exact!) and I’m lifting upper weights mostly, ellipticalling, and teaching pump.
I feel like my food has been pretty darn creative lately. With the weather getting warmer, I’m craving lots of lighter fare…TONS of veggies. I always know it’s summer when all I want for lunch is a big ‘ole salad.
And yesterday’s was somethin’ special:
[I know, I know...I'm officially a hippie ]
In truth, I received a sample of Hemp Hearts a while ago and finally used them! They’re chock full of protein and don’t taste like much at all. This combo was filling and delicious!
Last night, after an amazing arms workout (more in a sec), I ventured over to my friends’ house for a Baltimorean Feast. Kristen and Justin are both from Baltimore and Kristen traveled home with $70 worth of fresh lump crab to make us real crab cakes. Apparently they let her on the plane with a big cooler of crab meat and ice packs! It was worth any trouble because this meal was outstanding. Seriously.
I documented as much as I could (including their swaddled dog) so you could get a feel for what a “real” East Coast feast is like. Aside from the amazing food, as always it was fabulous company (and vocals…thanks, Jami!).
Crab cakes in the making:
Oh, and John had just gotten back from a baby daddy class (they’re due in July!) and couldn’t help but test out some of the swag.
Backing up to the arms workout! Elisa and I met in the afternoon for a quickie weight sesh. I already taught pump that morning so mine were tired, but I fought through! We repeated each of the following three times:
1a. Cable Chest Flyes (12 x 30#)
1b. Pushups (12)
2a. Cable Rows (12 x 40#)
2b. Bent Flyes (12 x 12.5#)
3a. Low Rope Bicep Curls (12 x 22.5#)
3b. Alt DB Bicep Curls (12 x 12.5#)
4a. High Rope Cable Press Down (12 x 25#)
4b. Overhead Tricep Extensions (12 x 15#)
5a. Shoulder Pushups (12)
5b. Laterals Raises-Palms Forward (12 x 7.5#)
By the end my arms were sauced.
Okay, I’m off to get ready to go to school. Three hours of multiple regressions. YUCK. Wish me luck!!
If you want to try a new health food product or vitamin, ask your grocery store if they have a sample you can try. Often companies send little trial packs for stores to give out! This will allow you to explore new things without investing a bunch of money.
Question: Have you ever had “real” crab cakes?
