Smoothies for Dinner

by Natalie on August 16, 2012

Heeeeey!

Tomorrow’s Friday again…any big weekend plans?

Hopefully I’ll be having some friend time, get some major house cleaning done, and wrap up a few loose school ends.  Oh, and exercise and eat too ;)

So, I was completely out of commission yesterday.  I have never, ever had a 36-hour migraine and this one just lingered and lingered.  I woke up with my headache on Wednesday too, but walked the dog and powered through a bunch of work before caving in and taking an Imitrex.

Heavy Duty Med + Darkness + Ice Pack + Sleep = Relief.

All I could stomach yesterday for dinner was a smoothie, so I made a monster one.

[almond milk, greek yogurt, protein, frozen mixed berries, spinach, frozen peaches]

This morning I decided against setting an alarm to make sure my body got enough rest.  I woke up at 7am headache free and ready to take on the world.  I was also starving!

Since I wasn’t able to meet Lauren for a run this morning, I ended up hitting the treadmill mid-morning for an awesome HIIT session.  Elisa also joined in on the madness fun!

Progressive 30/60/90 Intervals

warm-up 5 min @ 4.5-6.5
30-sec @ 8.5 mph
30-sec @ 6.3 mph
60-sec @ 8.0 mph
60-sec @ 6.3 mph
90-sec @ 7.5 mph
90-sec @ 6.3 mph
repeat last 6-minutes seven times
2-min @ 7.5 mph
cool down 1-min @ 4.5 mph

I can’t remember the last time I did speedwork on the treadmill and it kicked my buns.  We went about 6.25 miles total and were both super sweaty…success!

I cleaned up, trained some clients, had a few meetings, then trained some more clients.  It was a busy day, so I’m glad I packed my food bag (something I never regret :D ).

Today I packed a protein smoothie (post-run snack), a big salad (lunch), a banana + planned dip into the work almond butter stash (afternoon snack), and a kombucha that I didn’t end up drinking.

I ate the banana/AB between clients kind of in a rush, but I needed to get something because I was teaching the evening BodyPump class.  Believe it or not, in all my months of teaching this class I have never taught the 6:30 PM timeslot, and it was a blast!  I had a ton of energy and really enjoyed the participation and enthusiasm of the class.

For dinner tonight I threw together a bowl of leftovers that I half consumed before realizing it was good enough to be pictured on the blog.  Oops!  I owe ya one ;)

Okay, off to shower and relax.

Have a great night!

*CHALLENGE of the DAY*
Eat more servings of vegetables than fruits today!  See if you can eat double the amount of veggies…while getting 6-9 servings total.  Studies indicate that people who fill up on fruits and veggies tend to weigh less and protect themselves from cancer and other diseases.
